Ghanaian dancehall artist Shatta Wale has taken to social media to pen an open letter to newly sworn-in President John Dramani Mahama, urging him to reform the nation’s entertainment industry.
In a heartfelt Facebook post, the self-proclaimed “Dancehall King” emphasized the need for structural changes to elevate the music industry and ensure its sustainability for future generations.
“I wish our new president, John Dramani Mahama, can also reform our music system to attract more professionals on radio and television, similar to the appointment of new ministers when they assume power,” Shatta Wale wrote. “The entertainment industry needs that change.”

The musician’s plea highlights the challenges faced by artists and entertainment professionals in Ghana, where many struggle with inadequate support systems, limited media representation, and a lack of formalized structures to treat music as a viable profession.
For Shatta Wale, these changes are necessary to prevent upcoming talents from enduring the same hardships he and others have experienced.
“The younger ones coming can’t go through what some of us have been through,” he added. “My humble wish is just for the next generations to see this music business as a job and not just fun.”
