Ghanaian rapper Edem has broken his silence following criticism over his response to a fan seeking financial aid during a recent TikTok live session.
Addressing the backlash in an interview on 3FM Drive, Edem defended his sharp response and shed light on his approach to helping others, emphasizing that respect and decency remain his core principles.
“In this time and age, I don’t think I would tolerate any human being who is rude,” Edem stated, referencing the controversial interaction.
The incident began when a fan pleaded with the award-winning rapper for GHS 2,000 to supplement their rent payment. During the livestream, Edem responded with a candid piece of advice: “If you can’t afford rent in Accra, maybe it’s time to consider moving to your hometown. Life in the city is tough.”
The comment sparked mixed reactions, with some labelling him as arrogant and insensitive. However, Edem explained that the fan’s prior behaviour influenced his response.
“What many don’t know is that this same person had earlier called me stingy during the live session, then turned around to ask me for help. That’s not how it works,” he revealed during the interview.
Edem also used the opportunity to highlight his track record of supporting others, recounting a recent act of kindness that didn’t receive the same public attention.
“Three weeks ago, I was on TikTok live, and there was a lady called Vanessa with a three-year-old daughter who couldn’t afford to go to school. We paid her fees and everything and put her in school,” he shared.
