Third Parties Do Not Have A Place In Ghana’s Politics- Nana Akomea

The Managing Director of the State Transport Company (STC) and a prominent member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Akomea has expressed his views on Alan Kyeremanteng’s departure from the party to establish his own political party.

According to Akomea, if Kyeremanteng had chosen to remain in the NPP, there was a possibility that he could have teamed up with Dr Mahamudu Bawumia as his running mate.

Akomea also emphasized the limited significance of third parties in Ghana’s political history.

“He’s a stalwart in the political party. If he had stayed, this issue about running mate would have been settled,” he said.

On whether a third force will work in Ghana he said “If you look at the third parties, the system doesn’t encourage third parties. Our system in this country is first pass the post and from the results of the election garnered by third parties I don’t know why these gentlemen bother themselves,” he said as quoted as MyNewsGH.

Meanwhile, the Movement For Change (M4C) has so far sealed a deal with the National Interest Movement (NIM), a political Civil Society Coalition, convened and led by Dr. Michael Abu Sakara Foster, a former flag bearer of the opposition Convention’s People’s Party (CPP) and some political entities and individuals.

The alliance, named the ‘Alliance for Revolutionary Change’ (ARC) will aggressively mobilise Ghanaians from across the country, particularly the youth and women, irrespective of their religious, political, and ethnic affiliations, in a grand coalition to elect the first independent candidate as the President of the Republic of Ghana.

The M4C in a statement dated April 4, 2024, signed by its founder, Alan Kyerematen, said “The Alliance when voted into Government, will focus on breaking the cycle of poverty and reset the country on a new path to prosperity.”
