Think Before Buying a Car While Renting – Kwaku Manu

Kumawood actor Kwaku Manu has shared candid advice for Ghanaian youth, urging them to rethink their spending habits and focus on investments.

His remarks, grounded in practical wisdom, highlight the importance of financial planning and prioritizing long-term stability over short-term indulgence.

“The youth today tend to overspend. For example, if someone spends GH¢5,000 every weekend, Friday to Sunday, just think of the amount of money they’re wasting, yet they don’t even own a plot of land,” Kwaku stated, expressing concern over how many young people allocate their earnings.

The actor also pointed out the unnecessary financial strain some young people place on themselves by acquiring expensive cars while living in rented apartments.

“Before buying a car, I would advise such a person to think it through. And if you still decide to buy a car while renting, don’t purchase one that costs more than the building you’re living in,” he said.

Kwaku’s comments resonate with those who argue that a more grounded approach to personal finance is essential for long-term success.

For instance, in cities like Accra and Kumasi, where rental costs for single-room apartments can reach GH¢10,000 annually, making significant investments in depreciating assets like luxury cars often becomes counterproductive.

On the topic of luxury purchases, Kwaku addressed recent online debates over extravagant spending on home decor, such as curtains.

“Nowadays, a single-room self-contained apartment costs around GH¢10,000. I don’t know how much she rented her apartment for, but there’s nothing wrong with her buying an GH¢18,000 curtain.

Sometimes, we need to be more patient with what we say on social media,” he said, defending the freedom of individuals to make their choices within their financial means.
