Ghanaian DJ and podcaster DJ Slim has weighed in on the factors behind the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) loss in the 2024 general elections.
Speaking on his popular program on Hitz FM, DJ Slim dissected the party’s campaign strategy, highlighting critical missteps that, in his view, made their defeat inevitable.
“They were destined to lose these elections based on several factors,” DJ Slim remarked bluntly. “They scored too many own goals.”
According to the media personality, the party’s inability to address key voter concerns and the perception of internal disorganization significantly weakened its position. However, he acknowledged a strategic highlight of the campaign: the rebranding of Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

“The only brilliant thing that happened during the campaign was their ability to shift the narrative around Vice President Bawumia,” DJ Slim observed.
“They moved him from being seen as an economic figure to an IT-focused one. By the final days of the campaign, discussions about Bawumia were no longer centred on economic issues, but rather on technology.”
This shift, Slim noted, was a deliberate attempt to counter criticisms of the Vice President’s performance in managing the economy, particularly during a period of heightened economic challenges. By repositioning him as a visionary leader in technology, the NPP sought to appeal to younger, tech-savvy voters.
