International reggae sensation Hezron is causing a stir in Ghana’s music scene with his bold claims regarding the authenticity of the country’s dancehall and reggae music.

During his recent visit to Ghana, Hezron openly stated that renowned Ghanaian artists like Stonebwoy, Shatta Wale, and Samini do not perform “authentic” reggae or dancehall music.

“Their music is more of a flavour, not the real deal,” Hezron remarked, sparking a wave of conversation among fans, critics, and fellow artists.

His comment has not only raised eyebrows but also ignited a much-needed discussion on the boundaries between the two influential genres.

When asked about his stance, Hezron didn’t shy away from explaining his perspective. “If given the chance, I’d teach them the authentic reggae style,” he said confidently.

The Jamaican artist emphasized that while dancehall and reggae music are often intertwined, they each possess unique qualities that distinguish them from each other.

For Hezron, reggae music stands for something much deeper than just a genre. “Reggae is full of peace, life, and freshness,” he explained passionately.

He sees the genre as a vessel for positive messages and energy, which is why he believes it is crucial to separate it from dancehall when it comes to recognition and awards.

“I believe that reggae and dancehall music should have separate categories for awards because they serve different purposes,” he added, explaining that each genre carries its own significance and influences.

His call for distinction in award categories has raised important questions about how these two powerful genres are perceived and rewarded in the global music industry.

During his visit, Hezron made it clear that his intention wasn’t to criticize Ghanaian artists, but to educate and collaborate.

“I want to learn from the culture here, collaborate with local musicians, and give back to society,” Hezron shared, revealing the deeper purpose behind his visit to Africa.
