The NPP Has Done Nothing For The Ashanti Region- Otumfuo Ahenenanom

The failure of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to deliver development projects to the Ashanti Region has drawn criticism from the Otumfuo Ahenenanom Hene, Nana Kwame Mensah-Bonsu.

He asserted that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and President Akufo-Addo were complacent in their treatment of the Ashanti Region.

In an interview for the “For The Records” show, Nana Mensah-Bonsu, a sub-chief of Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, asserted that the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), which receives few votes in the Ashanti Region, has carried out more projects there than the NPP administration.

He added that the Akufo-Addo government is the worst he has seen, asking “whether the president had any education”.

“I am here to fight for Ashanti. Akufo-Addo should come and point out all the development projects he has brought to the Ashanti Region and let Mahama also do the same.

“… has Akufo-Addo gone to school since he came into politics, who is his classmate? Who did he go to law school with? Who did he go to the university with? He has not brought any project to the Ashanti Region.

“I beg you to call the NDC and call the NPP for them to come and account for what they have done in the Ashanti Region. We’re not fools. If we were blind yesterday, today we can see that it is raining and the ground is wet,” he said in Twi.

The John Dramani Mahama administration began a number of projects, notably the Sofoline Interchange in Kumasi, which the Akufo-Addo administration has failed to finish in the more than six years it has been in power.

He asked the Ashanti chiefs to stand up and urged the Ashanti populace to vote wisely for their own sake.

Who won Kumawu by-election?

With more than 70% of the legitimate ballots cast, Ernest Yaw Annim of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has won the Kumawu by-election.

As of 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, the Electoral Commission (EC) had counted votes from 75 polling places, and Ernest Yaw Annim was in the lead with 14,195 votes, or 70.32 per cent.

Kwasi Amankwaa, the NDC candidate, received 3,569 votes, or 17.68%, of the total. The two independent candidates Kwaku Duah with a bird as his symbol received 2,362 votes, or 11.70 percent of the total valid votes cast, while Kwaku Duah with a hoe received 61 votes or 0.30 percent.
