During the year 2022, it appeared as though each week brought with it a new significant headline in the world of fashion news.

There was always something to talk about, whether it was Gucci casting sets of twins for Twinsburg’s no fewer than 68 sets of identical twins (yes, actual twins) or Florence-based label AVAVAV led by creative director Beate Karlsson took a tumble into its first live runway show. (Literally, models dropped looks as they walked onto the runway and intentionally fell to their knees. Debuts, departures, Copernis spraying a white dress live on model Bella Hadid’s body, and Diesel breaking the record for the largest inflatable sculpture. The sculpture is 49.186 m (161 ft 4.457 in) long, 37.973 m (124 ft 7 in) wide, and 13.401 m (43 ft 11.598 in) tall as measured in Guangzhou, Guangdong, China, on 29 August 2022.

It finished with brand closings, goodbyes, and scandals that were so upsetting that we won’t fully recover until 2023.
