Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture Development Mavis Hawa Koomson has declared support for Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s bid to represent the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 2024 general election.
According to her, the vice president is the person with the strongest chance of actualizing the NPP’s dream of becoming the first political party in the first republic to govern the country for three consecutive terms.
The MP for Awutu Senya East has declared that Dr. Bawumia is the only NPP presidential candidate with the vision required to take over for President Akufo-Addo.
Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosiisen programme, Hawa Koomson said that the overwhelming support for Bawumia’s bid among NPP members is evidence that he is destined to succeed Nana Akufo-Addo as president.
“Have you asked yourself why the majority of members of parliament are supporting Dr. Bawumia? Have you asked yourself this question before?”, she quipped, and explained that it is so because of what they have seen of him as “the only person who can change this country” to add to what President Akufo-Addo has achieved for Ghana,” she said.
She praised Bawumia’s knowledge and wisdom, saying that his speeches demonstrate his maturity as a leader. She also stated that the NPP is a democratic party and that all qualified members of the NPP are welcome to run for president, but Dr. Bawumia will ultimately be chosen.
According to her, since more than 100 NPP MPs support Dr. Bawumia’s candidature, no other candidate has a good chance of winning the position.
