That Indelible Smile… Will There Ever Be Justice? – Widow of Slain MP Laments 9 Years After His Murder

Nine years after the brutal murder of former Abuakwa North MP, Joseph Boakye Danquah Adu, his widow, Ivy Heward-Mills, has once again expressed deep sorrow over the unresolved case.

Marking the anniversary of his death in an emotional Facebook post, she wrote:

“That indelible smile… 9yrs have gone by… Will there ever be justice? It is not well. It is not well at all.”

Joseph Boakye Danquah Adu, born on July 2, 1965, in Old Tafo, Eastern Region, Ghana, was a prominent member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

He served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Abuakwa North from 2005 to 2009 and again from 2013 until his untimely death in 2016.

On February 9, 2016, Danquah Adu was tragically murdered at his residence in Shiashie, Accra.

Initial reports indicated he was stabbed multiple times by an intruder. Following investigations, Daniel Asiedu, also known as “Sexy Don Don,” was arrested and charged with the murder.

Asiedu confessed to the crime, claiming it occurred during a robbery attempt. The legal proceedings have been prolonged and complex.

In December 2024, after eight years of trial, a seven-member jury delivered a 4-3 verdict, finding Asiedu not guilty of both robbery and murder charges.

This split decision led the presiding judge to discharge the jury and order a retrial, as the verdict was insufficient for conviction.

Throughout the trial, various challenges have emerged, including the reported theft of the post-mortem report by the pathologist, Dr. Lawrence Edusei, which added to the case’s complications.
