The Energy Minister, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, disclosed that $2.5 million worth of oil condensate has gone missing from the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR).

On April 20, 2023, the minister addressed the media, stating that the money was part of a business opportunity for the refinery to generate premix fuel from condensates from Ghana Gas.

“I gave TOR a new business opportunity in the premix fuel market that all the condensate from Ghana Gas should be used for making premix fuel. The last time I heard, Over 2.5 million dollars worth of condensate had gone missing from TOR,” he said.

In response to a complaint from the workers, he reassured the public that the government is actively working to reopen the refinery. Despite this, employees are demanding Jerry K. Hinson’s (the company’s MD) removal due to allegations levelled against him.

Picketing at the Jubilee House, the Ministry of Energy, and other important places has been announced by the General Transport, Petroleum, and Chemical Workers Union (GTPCWU).

In a letter to employees, Mr. Hinson threatened that they would be punished under articles 168-171 of the Labour Act if they engaged in illegal strike action or picketing.
