Communications Director for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sammy Gyamfi, has taken a swipe at the New Patriotic Party (NPP), urging them to accept their new status as the opposition and be prepared for a prolonged stay outside government.
Speaking in an interview on Oyerepa TV, Gyamfi dismissed the NPP’s criticism of the construction of the Hajj Village, emphasizing that the initiative is not a government-funded project.
“The NPP should understand that they have now come to the opposition. Four years will come right now, but it will not be easy. They should take their time because they will be in opposition for a very long time,” he said.

He further explained that the Hajj Village is a revenue-generating project for the Kotoka International Airport and not an exclusive facility for Muslim pilgrims.
“The Muslim pilgrims will use the Hajj village for just six weeks in a year, but the village being constructed has shops, offices, and a sports complex, which will generate revenue for the Airport Company, so I don’t see why the complaints.
“John Dramani Mahama has not used state funds to build any church or a Hajj Village; it is the Airport Company which is constructing their village,” Gyamfi stated.
Addressing the argument that the NDC had opposed the National Cathedral while supporting the Hajj Village, Gyamfi clarified that the party’s resistance to the cathedral was based on the lack of transparency from the Akufo-Addo administration.
