Sudan Conflict: 74 Ghanaians Arrive Safely At Kotoka International Airport – Foreign Affairs

In spite of the ongoing war in the Central African country, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration reports that 80 Ghanaians have been safely evacuated from Sudan.

The Ministry said in a news release dated May 2, 2023, that all 74 passengers on Tuesday’s flight had arrived safely at Kotoka International Airport in Accra, Ghana.

The statement read, “They were met on arrival by the Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Kwaku Ampratwum-Sarpong, Ghana’s Ambassador to Ethiopia and Permanent Representative to the African Union Commission (AU), Ambassador Amma A. Twum-Amoah, and other officials from the Ministry as well as some members of the Ghana Psychological Association.”

The Ministry stated that the remaining six Ghanaians were taken to safety through the Egyptian border post of Wadi Halfa.

The evacuation comes after a week of fatal war between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces, which has resulted in hundreds of deaths and cut off food and medical supplies to Khartoum and other parts of Sudan.

Meanwhile, the Foreign Affairs Ministry expressed gratitude to those who had a hand in helping facilitate the evacuation and urged any Ghanaians still in Sudan to contact the appropriate authorities for help getting out.
