Rapper D-Black was deeply moved upon learning that his song, ‘My Kinda Girl’, was being studied by students in the literature department at the University of Ghana, Legon.
The song, which was released in 2013 and features Sarkodie, has gained recognition among the students.
D-Black, in a post shared sighted by GhanaStreetJournal said the fact that his lyrics were analyzed during the last semester of the academic calendar brought him great joy, as he shared the news on his timeline.
In his words, as an artist who was just starting in the industry at the time, he, along with Sarkodie, aimed to share their stories and express themselves without the pressure of commercial success.
Over a decade later, he is thrilled that students are now dissecting the content of his music for academic purposes.
Sharing the exciting news which is presently generating enough conversation around the entertainment news landscape to his fans on X, formerly Twitter, D-Black wrote;
“Such an honour for the University of Ghana @universityofghana Literature Department last semester to study the lyrics from the song ‘My Kinda Girl’ off my second album with my brother @sarkodie in an academic paper that appeared in the Critical Discourse Studies by Dr. Nancy Henaku, a lecturer at the Department of English, University of Ghana.
“Back then, we were coming up and just wanted to tell our stories and break free without the pressure of commercial success.
“A decade later, students my age then are studying the lyrics I penned down. That feeling is a different type of feeling! God has been good. Stay grateful, stay smiling…”
