Kenyan gospel singer Stephen Kasolo has found himself at the centre of a controversy following allegations that he stole Diana Marua’s iPhone during a wedding event for Bolo Bespoke.
The situation has left Kasolo frustrated and deeply concerned about the damage these accusations could cause to his reputation and career.
In a heartfelt statement to content creators, Kasolo firmly denied any involvement in the incident, stating he had nothing to do with the missing phone.
According to him, he left the wedding early to perform in Nairobi, long before the phone was reported missing later that evening. Now, he is calling on Bahati, Diana’s husband, to step in and clear his name.
“Bahati, I came to the event out of respect for you. Kindly, if there’s any way you can resolve this by clearing my name regarding the phone theft, please do so,” Kasolo pleaded.
“I respect you so much, and I’ve tried to reach out to you, but you didn’t take any action.”
Kasolo expressed his disappointment with how the situation has been handled, especially since he wasn’t even a paid guest at the wedding but attended as a courtesy and out of respect for Bahati.
He emphasized that the accusations have severely impacted his reputation, not just personally but professionally as well.
“I’m not an upcoming artist; my family depends on my name, just like your family depends on your Netflix proceeds,” Kasolo said.
“This story is ruining my name, but you ignored me. He ignored me because I’m ‘useless’ and don’t have a big name like his. But I have a name to protect.”
Kasolo pointed out that the phone went missing during a time when many wedding attendees were intoxicated. He reiterated his innocence, explaining that he had left early for another event.
“I left earlier because I had a show in Nairobi. Please, clear my name. My brand is being destroyed. Right now, I can’t even get event bookings. Who will hire you when you’ve been called a thief?” Kasolo asked, clearly distressed about how the allegations are affecting his livelihood.
Meanwhile, Diana Marua also spoke out, posting a video on social media urging the return of her phone.
In the emotional video, she warned that the phone was being tracked and urged whoever had taken it to return it to avoid further complications.
This incident highlights the personal and professional damage that can arise from allegations, especially in the public eye.
For Kasolo, the situation goes beyond just a missing phone; it’s about the impact such accusations can have on his standing as an artist, his livelihood, and his reputation.
“My name depends on the internet,” he said, lamenting how the accusations have tainted his image. “Who will give me an event when my name is being dragged through the mud?”
For now, Kasolo hopes that Bahati will publicly address the issue and help restore his reputation, allowing him to move on from this unfortunate situation.
