President Nana Akufo-Addo has relieved Dr. John Ofori-Tenkorang of his duties as the Director-General of Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT).

In his place, Mr. Kofi Bosompem Osafo-Maafo, the son of NPP stalwart Osafo Marfo, has been appointed.

This decision was announced in a statement released by the Secretary to the President on April 8, 2024.

“Reference is made to your appointment letter dated 1st July 2019, issued by the Public Services Commission.

“In accordance with paragraph 8 of the said appointment letter, I regret to inform you that the President has terminated your appointment effective 15th April 2024 with three (3) months’ salary in lieu of notice.

“You are directed to hand over your office to Mr. Kofi Bosompem Osafo-Maafo and proceed to collect any terminal benefits you may be entitled to.

“To ensure a smooth transition, kindly hand over and cease to act as the Director-General of the Social Security and National Insurance mod (SSNIT) no later than the close of business on Monday, 15th April 2024.

“The President thanks you for your service to the nation and extends his best wishes.”

The Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) is a statutory public Trust charged under the National Pensions Act, 2008 Act 766 with the administration of Ghana’s Basic National Social Security Scheme. Its mandate is to cater for the First Tier of the Three-Tier Pension Scheme.

The Trust is currently the largest non-bank financial institution in Ghana.

The primary responsibility of the Trust is to replace part of lost income of workers in Ghana due to Old Age, Invalidity or Death of a member where dependants receive lump sum payment.

It is also responsible for the payment of Emigration benefit to a non-Ghanaian member who is leaving Ghana permanently.
