In an exciting entertainment news for fans of high-stakes drama, Netflix has revealed that the highly anticipated second season of the global phenomenon “Squid Game” will premiere on December 26, 2024.

The South Korean survival thriller, which became Netflix’s most-watched series ever upon its release in 2021, is set to continue its gripping narrative just in time for viewers to binge-watch during the holiday season.

Creator and director Hwang Dong-hyuk has returned to helm the second season, promising to deliver even more intense and thought-provoking content.

Netflix has confirmed that Lee Jung-jae will reprise his role as Seong Gi-hun, the winner of the first deadly tournament. He will be joined by a new cast of characters played by actors including Yim Si-wan, Kang Ha-neul, Park Gyu-young, Lee Jin-uk, Park Sung-hoon, Yang Dong-geun, Kang Ae-sim, Lee David, Choi Seung-hyun, Roh Jae-won, Jo Yu-ri, and Won Ji-an. As of now, it’s unclear whether Golden Globe winner O Yeong-su and SAG Award winner HoYeon will appear in any capacity in the rest of the series.

In an open letter, writer and director Hwang expressed his excitement to return to the world of Squid Game and teased that the “fierce clash” between Gi-Hun and Front Man would last until the series ends in 2025. “Seong Gi-hun, who vowed revenge at the end of season one, returns and joins the game again,” wrote Hwang. “Will he succeed in getting revenge? Front Man doesn’t seem to be an easy opponent this time either.”

“The real game begins,” reads the end of the trailer. “Squid Game season 2, December 26. And the final season coming 2025.”

The streaming giant has also teased the return of several fan-favorite characters and the introduction of new faces that will shake up the game’s dynamics.

The first season of “Squid Game” not only broke viewership records but also made history at major award shows. It became the first non-English language series to win major prizes at the Screen Actors Guild Awards and garnered Lee Jung-jae an Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series.
