Hollywood’s latest sports drama F1, starring Brad Pitt and directed by Joseph Kosinski, has added one last victory to its already impressive theatrical run. The film, which has now transitioned to streaming after a lengthy stay in theaters, has officially outpaced Hugh Jackman’s beloved Wolverine swan song, Logan, on the all-time global box office charts.
According to industry reports, F1 has earned $614.5 million worldwide, nudging past Logan’s lifetime haul of $614.2 million. The milestone secures F1 a spot among the top 200 films of all time, an unexpected achievement considering its genre and competition this summer.
Released in 2017, James Mangold’s Logan was widely hailed as the definitive Wolverine movie, earning critical acclaim and a 93% “Certified Fresh” score on Rotten Tomatoes. It redefined the superhero genre with its Western-inspired storytelling and emotional farewell to Jackman’s iconic mutant. The film’s gritty tone and powerhouse performances from Jackman, Patrick Stewart, and Dafne Keen turned it into a modern classic.
By comparison, F1 revved up audiences with its adrenaline-fueled racing sequences, Kosinski’s dynamic direction, and Brad Pitt’s effortless charisma. Critics praised it as “vintage cool,” with the film currently holding an 82% Certified Fresh score on Rotten Tomatoes. Audience response was even stronger, with a 97% approval rating and mounting demand for a sequel.
The win over Logan is symbolic, as it represents how F1 exceeded expectations in a crowded market. Earlier this summer, it even outperformed James Gunn’s Superman at the global box office, cementing its reputation as one of the year’s biggest surprises.
With both F1 and Superman now available on premium VOD platforms, the rivalry at the box office may be cooling down—but F1 has already left its mark, proving that original storytelling and star power can still go the distance.
