Nigerian musician Speed Darlington, born Darlington Achakpo, has been granted bail by an Abuja court, bringing an end to his nearly month-long detention.
His release follows a tumultuous period that began with his arrest in late November after allegedly jumping bail about a previous legal matter.
The singer’s legal troubles began earlier this year when he was first arrested in October after a petition was filed against him by fellow musician Burna Boy.
The petition claimed that Speed Darlington had engaged in behaviour that required police intervention.
This was reportedly not the first time the two artistes had a strained relationship, with tensions simmering between them for months prior.

Speed Darlington was arrested on November 27 while performing at an event in Owerri, Imo State.
His arrest was linked to an alleged incident involving Afrofusion artist Damini Ogulu, widely known as Burna Boy.
Darlington’s attorney, Deji Adeyanju, confirmed that Burna Boy played a role in his client’s arrest.
Darlington had previously mocked Burna Boy regarding his connection to the controversial United States rapper Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs, who is currently facing numerous allegations related to sexual exploitation and human trafficking.
This provocation led to his initial arrest. Upon his arrival, Speed Darlington vowed to persist in criticizing the Grammy award-winning artist due to his ties with the troubled Diddy.
Earlier, Darlington’s lawyer, Adeyanju, stated that the singer would either be formally charged within 48 hours or released on bail.
