No Intention to Jump Bail-Speed Darlington’s Lawyers Defend Him After Rearrest

The drama surrounding the controversial rapper Speed Darlington, whose real name is Darlington Achakpo, has taken a new turn with his legal team speaking out against his recent rearrest.

After his performance in Owerri, Imo State, Speed Darlington was picked up by the police based on allegations that he had jumped bail.

However, his lawyers are now seeking to set the record straight, asserting that their client had no intention of absconding.

In a statement issued by his legal team, they clarified the circumstances surrounding Speed Darlington’s prior detention and subsequent bail.

“We act as counsel and solicitors to Mr. Darlington Achakpo, popularly known as Speed Darlington, and we write on his behalf to address the recent developments,” the statement begins.

According to his lawyers, Speed Darlington was granted administrative bail on October 20, 2024 after being detained for five days following his involvement in a dispute related to Burna Boy.

His legal team emphasized that he was given a date to report back but was unable to do so due to a medical emergency that required him to travel abroad.

“It was never our client’s intention to jump bail. In good faith, he had made arrangements to return to Abuja after receiving medical attention,” the statement reads.

The rearrest, which occurred after Speed Darlington’s performance in Owerri, has been described by his lawyers as both unnecessary and embarrassing.

They have called it a clear misuse of police authority, alleging that the arrest was made on the orders of the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Force Intelligence Bureau. The lawyers are now calling for an immediate investigation into what they see as an unjust act by the authorities.

“We find this action by the police to be not only unnecessary but a clear attempt to embarrass and trample on the rights of our client. Such conduct is both unwarranted and a misuse of police authority,” the statement concluded.

Speed Darlington’s history of controversies, especially his public feuds and bold online persona, have often attracted significant media attention.

This recent development only adds to the long list of incidents surrounding the rapper, who made headlines with his initial arrest and the dispute involving Nigerian singer Burna Boy.
