UK-based Ghanaian gospel musician Sonnie Badu has spoken out following Michael Blackson’s viral social media rant about Ghana’s Eurobond loss.
During an interview on GHOne, Badu emphasized the impact of Blackson’s statements, highlighting the weight an international figure like him carries.
“You just read what Michael Blackson said happened to him. This guy is an international figure, and everything he says carries a lot of weight. What he has done has damaged Ghana big-time,” Badu explained.
The musician warned that Blackson’s remarks could deter potential investors from considering Ghana. “It is telling everybody don’t go and invest in Ghana. Again, this is Africa.
“It is not just happening in Ghana; it’s happening everywhere where people think about their pockets first before the impact,” he said, lamenting the short-term mentality he believes plagues the region.
Drawing a contrast with other parts of the world, Badu added, “When you go to the white man’s land, they plan 50 years ahead. Even if they don’t benefit, they’d rather their children come to benefit.”
Earlier this week, US comedian Michael Blackson, of Ghanaian descent, sparked a social media frenzy with revelations about a raw deal he received from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government.
In a series of fiery posts shared on X (formerly Twitter), Blackson expressed his frustration over significant financial losses tied to his investment in Ghanaian Eurobonds, which he had intended to help fund his charitable efforts back home.
Blackson, who built a free school in Agona Nsaba, explained that he invested in Eurobonds to ensure the school’s sustainability.
