Greater Accra Regional Minister Henry Quartey has claimed that some members of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) are sabotaging President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-plan Addo to make the capital the cleanest city in West Africa.
The MP for Ayawaso Central has accused some of his party members of putting personal gain ahead of party unity. Therefore, some party members sabotage his efforts whenever he sends out a task force to remove all vendors from the streets, and they bring the vendors back to continue their trading activities.
In an interview with Peace FM on the 13th of February, 2023, he said that he is unconcerned by the actions of such people because he has the support of President Akufo-Addo and Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia.
” I do have problems, and I want to make that clear. People have told me that the president said I should stop doing what I’m doing. I want to make it clear that the president has never told me, “Henry, stop doing that.” Not the vice president. In fact, the office of president hasn’t changed, but I will say that my own party is trying to bring it down from the inside.
“That’s right, and that’s how we ended up here, they approve of our efforts so far, but I can’t help but wonder if some people within the government are actively attempting to sabotage Henry Quartey’s initiatives for the benefit of the Ghanaian people or out of their own narrow self-interest”. he said.
