Social Media Isn’t ‘Maame Water’- Piesie Esther

In an enlightening interview on Adom TV, award-winning Gospel singer Piesie Esther shared her evolving perspective on social media, reflecting a common journey of many who initially misunderstood its potential.

“We always heard the negative side of social media… At first, I thought social media was for Maame Water when it became so popular,” she admitted.

“But eventually, I realized it’s now a part of our lives and far from what we thought, so everyone has to embrace it to help their ministry or business.

Things have changed now, and it was not like how people perceived things in the past.” Piesie Esther’s candid confession touches on a broader theme relevant to Christianity and the misconceptions that can arise both within and outside the faith community.

Much like her initial hesitation toward social media, many people hold outdated or misinformed views about Christianity.

These misconceptions often stem from a lack of understanding or from focusing solely on negative representations. Historically, Christianity has been subject to various misinterpretations.

For instance, some view it as a religion of stringent rules and judgment, rather than one of grace and redemption. Others might perceive Christians as resistant to change, clinging to tradition at the expense of relevance in a modern context.

However, much like the transformative power of social media that Piesie Esther came to appreciate, Christianity at its core is about transformation and embracing new perspectives. It’s about understanding and experiencing faith in a way that is dynamic and life-changing.

The Bible itself provides numerous examples of embracing change and overcoming misconceptions. Jesus’ ministry was revolutionary for its time, often challenging societal norms and misconceptions about faith and righteousness.

He taught that true faith was not about rigid adherence to rules, but about love, compassion, and personal transformation.

Piesie Esther’s journey with social media parallels the journey many believers undergo in their faith—moving from skepticism to understanding, from tradition to innovation.

By embracing social media, she acknowledges its role in modern ministry, helping to spread positive messages and connect communities in ways that were previously unimaginable.

“Everyone has to embrace it to help their ministry or business,” she emphasized, highlighting the necessity of adapting to contemporary tools for outreach.

Similarly, modern Christianity encourages believers to engage with the world thoughtfully, using contemporary means to communicate timeless truths.

It’s about breaking down barriers and misconceptions, both about the faith itself and about the tools we use to share it.

Christianity, much like any living tradition, thrives on the balance between holding onto core beliefs and embracing new methods of expression and outreach.
