American rapper Snoop Dogg is set to participate in the Olympic torch relay this Friday, July 26, as it nears the Paris Games’ opening ceremony.
He will carry the torch through the streets of Saint-Denis, a diverse suburb of northern Paris that is home to the Olympic Stadium and Aquatics Centre, as confirmed by the town’s mayor Mathieu Hanotin to AgenceFP on Monday.
Joining Snoop Dogg as torchbearers in Saint-Denis will be French actress Laetitia Casta, French rapper MC Solaar, and Ukrainian retired pole-vaulter Sergey Bubka.
The torch has been travelling across France for two months, and on Friday morning it will pass through the athletes’ village located between Saint-Denis and neighbouring Saint-Ouen, before reaching the Olympic Stadium and Aquatics Centre a few kilometres away.
Snoop Dogg, aged 52, hails from greater Los Angeles, the host city for the 2028 Games.
In addition to the torch relay, he will also serve as an Olympic commentator for US television network NBC during the 2024 Games.
