Snoop Dogg has taken to social media to express his grief over the passing of his cousin, Darryl “Joe Cool” Daniel, the talented artist behind his famous Doggystyle album cover.
In an Instagram post on Monday, Snoop shared a video of himself and Joe Cool reminiscing backstage, with his cousin discussing his losses on the Raiders while Snoop rapped along to his own song “Promise You This” from 2017.
The caption read: “R. I. P. 🙏😢 my big cuzn joe cool.” Daz Dillinger, another cousin of Snoop and Joe Cool, also paid tribute by sharing a series of photos on Instagram, including a throwback picture of the trio from the early ’90s.
“REST N PEACE DARYL JOE COOL DANIEL [explosion emoji, 100 emoji] MY BIGG CUZZN THIS REALLY HURTS WE GREW UP TOGETHER U WAS THERE FROM DAY ONE IM GONE REALLY REALLY MISS U BIGG CUZ [prayer hands emoji],” he wrote.
Snoop Doggy Dogg’s first studio album, Doggystyle, was released on November 23, 1993, under Death Row and Interscope Records.
The album was created after Snoop Doggy Dogg’s involvement in Dr. Dre’s debut solo album The Chronic (1992), where he played a significant role.
The West Coast hip-hop style that he cultivated from Dre’s initial album was carried over to Doggystyle.
Critics have commended Snoop Dogg for the authentic lyrical content and unique vocal delivery showcased on the album.
