Sister Derby Reacts To Mahama’s Stance On LGBTQ

Sister Derby has strongly criticized John Dramani Mahama’s position on the pending approval of the anti-LGBTQ bill by parliamentarians and subsequent endorsement by President Nana Akufo Addo.

As a vocal advocate for LGBTQ rights in Ghana and beyond, along with her brother, Sister Derby expressed disappointment in Mahama’s recent speech on this controversial subject, highlighting the calculated nature of politicians when addressing such matters.

The singer and model observed that politicians, including Mahama, carefully choose their words when discussing LGBTQ issues, as they have personal connections with individuals who identify as queer. Despite this, they attempt to create the illusion that they do not support such individuals.

According to Sister Derby, politicians always exercise caution in their language because they have acquaintances and business partners who are part of the LGBTQ community. She noticed that instead of openly opposing LGBTQ individuals, they prefer to state their opposition to same-sex marriage.

In a post sighted by Tru News Report, Sister Derby stated:

Our politicians always choose their words carefully because they all have acquaintances and business partners who are queer so they would never say they are against LGBTQ people but they would rather say carefully that they are against marriage between persons of the same sex.

They know that not all nations approve marriage of same sex so they fall on that reason. LGBTQ persons in Ghana NEVER asked for marriage.

They only ask for basic human rights and to be left in peace. Politicians ride on the wave of homophobia and transphobia to get the masses who are brainwashed with religion to vote for them. But who religion epp?

Her post comes after the former president of Ghana and flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, stated categorically that, as a Christian and member of the Assemblies of God Church, he does support the promotion of gay activities in the country.

During a public forum with the clergy in Koforidua as part of his ‘Building Ghana Tour’ on Wednesday, January 31, 2024, the former President reiterated his opposition to the LGBTQ community. He emphasized that his faith guides him not to condone such practices.
