Sinead O’Connor’s exact cause of death finally revealed one year after she died

Sinéad O’Connor died a year ago at the age of 56. A recent report from the Irish Independent reveals that she died from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and asthma contrary to a January 2024 report stating that the Irish singer “died of natural causes.”

Her death certificate was officially registered by her former husband John Reynolds in London last week.

The certificate states that her death was caused by a combination of COPD, bronchial asthma, and a low-grade lower respiratory tract infection.

The senior coroner Julian Morris certified O’Connor’s death after a post-mortem examination, ruling out the need for an inquest.

Shortly after this news, it was reported that a wax figure of O’Connor was displayed in the Star Wars section of the National Wax Museum Plus in Dublin, alongside characters like Qui-Gon Jinn and Darth Vader.

Fans criticized the lack of accuracy in the figure, prompting the museum to issue an apology and remove it.

They have promised to create a more precise representation of O’Connor in the future, although they did not address the odd placement of her figure in the Star Wars section.

On July 26, 2023, O’Connor was discovered unresponsive at her residence in Herne Hill, south London, and was pronounced deceased at the age of 56.

The Metropolitan Police announced the following day that her passing was not considered suspicious, but a post-mortem examination would be carried out.

On January 9, 2024, the London Inner Southwark Coroner’s Court revealed, based on the autopsy report released after a five-month wait, that O’Connor’s death was due to natural causes.

A private funeral took place on August 8 in Bray, County Wicklow, attended by the President of Ireland, Michael D. Higgins.

O’Connor’s family welcomed the public to pay their respects at the seafront where the funeral procession passed, with thousands showing up with signs and tributes. Her burial was conducted privately at Dean’s Grange Cemetery.
