The Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Dr. Abraham Nana Opare Kwakye, has made a passionate appeal to President Nana Akufo-Addo, urging him to sign the controversial Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill into law before the end of his administration.
Speaking at the launch of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana’s Bicentennial Anniversary on Sunday in Osu, Dr. Kwakye emphasized the church’s unwavering support for the bill.
He described it as a moral necessity to preserve African values and align them with the teachings of the gospel.
“For us Presbyterians,” he stated, “the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill, having given it our support at the time when the church was led by my predecessor, we interpreted this as our birthday gift for this year.”

Dr. Kwakye’s remarks were both a plea and a testament to the Presbyterian Church’s long-standing position on the issue.
He further urged President Akufo-Addo to act decisively, stating, “Your Excellency, make our joy complete.
“We are confident that in these last days, you will make our joy complete by assenting to the bill so that it becomes a law in Ghana.”
The Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill, often referred to as the anti-LGBTQ+ bill, has sparked significant debate both locally and internationally.
While proponents argue that it protects traditional values and family structures, critics contend that it infringes on human rights and could lead to discrimination.
