David Adjei Frimpong, popularly known as MC Portfolio, is no stranger to the music industry. As a podcaster, professional MC, and passionate music commentator, MC Portfolio has earned his stripes in the entertainment scene.
However, in a recent discussion on Fakye TV, he took a moment to pay tribute to a fellow artist whose influence has reached far beyond the confines of traditional praise—Shatta Wale.
Despite his strong ties to Shatta Wale’s competitor, Stonebwoy, Portfolio didn’t hesitate to highlight Wale’s monumental contribution to the Ghanaian music industry.
“I have a lot of respect for Shatta Wale,” he began. “People may know me for my close association with Stonebwoy, but you cannot ignore the impact Wale has had on this industry.
“The man has single-handedly elevated the local music scene. He’s pushed the envelope to the point where our artists can now demand real money for their performances.”
Portfolio’s remarks were an acknowledgement of Wale’s bold and unapologetic presence in the music world. Over the years, Shatta Wale has been an enigmatic figure, often stirring controversy but undeniably influencing the direction of Ghanaian music.
Portfolio believes that the criticisms Wale often faces from pundits, including himself, have only served to amplify the artist’s status, changing the nature of how the Ghanaian music industry is viewed and discussed.
“It’s funny how Shatta Wale critiques people like me, but do you know what happens?” Portfolio continued. “Those critiques, whether positive or negative, only elevate our status. They force us to sharpen our analysis and opinions.

“Shatta has made punditry in this country more important, and in a way, he has transformed how we view ourselves in the music space. It’s no longer just about the music; it’s about the conversations it sparks.”
This candid acknowledgement of Shatta Wale’s influence is rare in an industry often divided by rivalry. However, Portfolio was quick to add that it’s not just Wale’s critics who benefit from his larger-than-life persona.
“He doesn’t just get flowers,” Portfolio said with emphasis. “Shatta Wale commands a whole garden. The man’s influence is so vast, so overwhelming, that it can’t be contained in simple accolades. The industry is his garden.”
The conversation took a more reflective turn when Portfolio suggested that Wale consider cementing his legacy more tangibly.
Drawing inspiration from Sarkodie’s successful establishment of a music museum, he proposed that Wale could do something similar to ensure his contributions are documented for future generations. “Shatta, if you’re listening, I would love to see you create a music museum,” Portfolio urged.
“Just like Sarkodie has done, a museum would not only immortalize your journey but also serve as a space to inspire young artists coming up. You’ve built an empire, and now it’s time for it to have a permanent home.”
