Shame On You—Bridget Otoo Tells Akufo-Addo Over Cancelled New Force Event

Broadcast journalist Bridget Otoo has strongly criticized Nana Akufo-Addo for the abrupt cancellation of the New Force event, which has sparked a significant backlash online.

According to Bridget, not only is Nana Akufo-Addo’s government the worst in history, but they also resorted to dictatorial tactics to suppress their opponents, which she finds disgraceful.

She commented after the New Force event, known as ‘The Convention,’ was cancelled at the last minute on January 7, with reports suggesting that a heavy security presence was required to prevent attendees from entering the venue.

Following widespread criticism on social media, the Office of The President released a statement confirming the cancellation of the program due to unforeseen circumstances.

The statement, dated January 7, 2024, and signed by H.M. Wood, the Chief Director, explained that the decision was prompted by an unexpected State Event scheduled to take place at the same venue.

Additionally, it mentioned that the organizer of the program would receive a refund of the 10,000 Ghana cedis booking fee.

On the evening of January 7, 2024, social media platforms were abuzz with discussions when an event, rumored to be the unveiling of the leader of The New Force political movement at the Black Star Square, was interrupted by National Security operatives and officials from the Ghana Police Service.

In the past week, flyers and billboards promoting an event called “The Convention” were seen in various parts of Accra.

Notable figures expected to attend included former Nigerian presidential aspirant Peter Obi, Julius Malema, the President of the Economic Freedom Fighters of South Africa, P.L.O Lumumba, the former Director of the Kenya School of Law, and Arikana Chihombori-Quao, the former Permanent Representative of the African Union to the United States.

Bridget Otoo, renowned for her candidness, publicly criticized Nana Akufo Addo through a Twitter post for the turn of events.

“We live in a country where the worst government in the history of the 4th republic. Most corrupt, intolerant of dissenting views and human rights abuses,” she posted on Twitter (now X).

“This is autocracy!!! Shame on you Nana Akufo-Addo and Mahamudu Bawumia, her tweet concluded.
