Veteran Reggae/Dancehall artist Samini has made his film debut in a movie titled The Storm, directed by Ben Owusu.
He stars alongside prominent actors such as Salma Mumin and Adjetey Anang, among others.
In the film, Samini portrays Ali Zafara, the formidable leader of the Southern Crime Underground, characterized by his stern demeanour, cruelty, and the respect he commands.
The film is scheduled for release in theatres on September 21 and 22, 2024, at Silverbird Cinemas in Kumasi.
The narrative delves into the criminal underbelly of Accra, weaving a tale of crime, murder, kidnapping, corruption, and the quest for justice.
Samini is not the first Dancehall artist to transition into a significant film role; his competitor Shatta Wale showcased his acting abilities with a notable appearance in the 2016 film Shattered Lives.
The film’s producer explained to the media his decision to include Shatta Wale and Bisa KDei in the project.
He expressed his belief in discovering new talents, which led him and his team to collaborate with these musicians, recognizing their potential to reveal their hidden skills.
He emphasized that now is the opportune moment for music enthusiasts to appreciate that, beyond their musical talents, both artists possess additional skills that have come to light.
