Sam George Expresses Concern Over Challenges Ghanaian Cocoa Farmers Are Facing

The Ningo Prampram Member of Parliament, Sam Nartey George, has expressed concern about the current situation of cocoa farmers in Ghana.

The lawmaker argues that it is extremely disheartening to put in countless hours of effort only to receive little benefit in return. In response to a BBC article highlighting the current destitute circumstances of cocoa farmers in Ghana, Sam George expressed the belief that Ghanaians should engage in prayer to get effective leadership for the nation.

“Truly sad situation we find ourselves in. The people responsible say we should keep quiet and let them destroy everything. Pray for our beloved Ghana,” he stated.

A group of agricultural workers have raised concerns about the government’s decision to peg the new price of a bag of cocoa at GH¢1,308.

In their opinion, the government had failed to provide the value they had anticipated for a sack of cocoa pods, which was GH3,000.

The story published by the BBC over the weekend just adds more weight to this. According to the report, many Ghanaian cocoa farmers feel that COCOBOD is unable to turn a profit for their benefit despite their efforts and financial investments.
