Rubio and Musk Clash in Heated Trump Cabinet Meeting Over Government Cuts

, Ghana Street Journal

A storm is brewing inside Trump’s Cabinet, and at the center of it are two unlikely opponents: Secretary of State Marco Rubio and White House adviser Elon Musk.

The two clashed during a recent meeting, with tensions rising over Musk’s relentless push to downsize the federal government. What began as a policy discussion quickly escalated into a sharp exchange that laid bare the growing friction within the administration.

Musk, heading the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), has been spearheading the administration’s efforts to slash government spending.

But Rubio, overseeing one of the largest departments in the country, found himself at odds with the billionaire’s aggressive approach.

Reports indicate that Musk accused Rubio of not doing enough to shrink the State Department’s workforce, prompting a swift rebuttal.

Having already overseen voluntary retirement programs that led to over 1,500 employees leaving, Rubio dismissed Musk’s pressure, sarcastically suggesting that if Musk expected him to fire more people, perhaps he should rehire those who already left just to dismiss them again.

The exchange reportedly drew mixed reactions from other officials in the room.

Some saw it as a lighthearted jab, but others sensed the deepening divide between Musk’s vision of drastic, immediate cuts and the more traditional, calculated approach that some in the administration—Rubio included—believe is necessary.

Agency heads and several Congressional Republicans are said to be growing uneasy with Musk’s approach, particularly his desire to dismantle agencies like the U.S.

Agency for International Development (USAID), a move that has sparked legal and political challenges.

Despite the reports of heated words, Trump dismissed any notion of internal strife.

When asked by NBC’s Gabe Gutierrez about the confrontation, Trump brushed it off, labeling the journalist a “troublemaker” and insisting that both Musk and Rubio were doing an “amazing job.”
