Filmmaker and politician Socrate Safo has expressed deep concern over the public insults aimed at former President John Agyekum Kufuor after he endorsed Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for the 2024 presidential race.
In a recent interview on Okay FM, Safo condemned the disrespect shown to the elderly leader, emphasizing the need for a culture of respect in Ghana.
“I felt so bad. Are we sinking so low as a country?” Safo remarked, reflecting on the public backlash that followed Kufuor’s endorsement. “We have a culture.
“We are supposed to respect our elders. So for an adult to go and sit in public and insult an old man is sad. Because of what? For a decision we are going to take as a country?”

The former president’s endorsement of Dr Bawumia has sparked political controversy, with many voicing their displeasure over his support for the vice president’s candidacy.
However, Safo urged Ghanaians to refrain from personally attacking those with opposing views.
“You are not being forced. No one is going to hold you at gunpoint or knifepoint. He has given his opinion,” Safo explained.
“If you don’t like it, vote for who you want. So this shouldn’t be a reason to insult your elders. It is not good.”
