Veteran Ghanaian actress Akofa Edjeani has made a passionate call to President John Dramani Mahama to take bold steps in revitalizing the creative arts sector.
She urged the President to appoint leaders who not only understand the arts but are committed to unlocking its vast socio-economic while speaking candidly about the challenges the industry faces in an interview on Joy FM.
“This time around, we should have a serious roundtable discussion to set things straight. Let’s reset and rebuild as the President is saying,” Edjeani remarked, her tone a mix of frustration and hope.

The actress emphasized that the arts are more than just entertainment; they hold the key to cultural preservation, employment creation, and national identity.
“If he is serious about that, then he should appoint the right people—those who understand the impact of the arts, the socio-economic benefits it brings, and how it can contribute to growth, employment, and overall well-being,” she continued.
Edjeani’s plea comes at a time when Ghana’s creative arts industry is striving to compete on a global stage while facing internal challenges such as lack of funding, inadequate infrastructure, and limited government support.
