Princess Sheikha Mahra, the daughter of the incumbent ruler of Dubai and the Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates, shared a viral post on Instagram on Wednesday, seemingly declaring her divorce from her husband.
The post, originating from the verified Instagram account of Princess Sheikha Mahra has been shared publicly, detailing her decision to terminate her marriage:
“Dear Husband, As you are occupied with other companions, I hereby declare our divorce,” the post reads. “I divorce you, I divorce you, I Divorce you. Take Care. Your Ex-Wife.”
The post is set against a plain black backdrop, with no caption. Her verified account has liked multiple comments supporting the post.
The content of her post appears to allude to the Islamic tradition of “triple talaq,” a practice that has been prohibited in several nations, including India, Saudi Arabia, and Morocco. Historically, this tradition permitted a husband to dissolve his marriage by uttering or inscribing the word talaq—meaning “divorce” in Arabic—three times.
It is currently unclear whether Sheikh Mana bin Mohammed bin Rashid bin Mana Al Maktoum, Mahra’s husband, has made any public statements regarding the matter. Similarly, her father, Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, has not provided any commentary. Furthermore, a request for a response from the Dubai government media office regarding the Instagram post was not met with an immediate reply.
Mahra and her husband have been wed since April 2023. Five months following their marriage ceremony, they announced the birth of their first child.
“Just the three of us,” Sheikha Mahra captioned the photo of her ultrasound, tagging her husband, who re-shared it. In May, she posted multiple photos of her, her husband and their newborn child.
As of July 18, the princess has removed all photographs of her husband from her Instagram page.
