Ras Mubarak Blames Onua TV for Violence in Obuasi After Captain Smart’s Remarks

The recent violent clashes in Obuasi, which saw illegal miners invade the AngloGold Ashanti (AGA) mine, have sparked outrage across Ghana.

Leading member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Ras Mubarak, has pointed the finger directly at Onua TV, claiming that the media house played a significant role in inciting the chaos.

Mubarak argued that the station allowed its platform to be used by one of its staff members to propagate messages of violence, a move he believes contributed to the tragic events in Obuasi.

“We’ve come a long way and must not, in the name of free speech, allow media houses to be used as vessels to incite violence.

“We can’t live in a country with such wanton indiscipline,” Mubarak stated. He made it clear that thuggery and lawlessness should have no place in the Ghana everyone envisions.

“We sit aloof at our own peril,” he added.

The bloody incident in Obuasi has raised serious concerns, particularly after a video surfaced showing Onua TV’s morning show host, Captain Smart, making controversial statements that seemed to encourage violence.

In the video, Captain Smart, addressing the youth of Obuasi, urged them to take action against the mine, stating, “Ghanaian youth in Obuasi, go to the mine.

“Attack the mine and take what you want so that when you get hungry, you get something to eat.” He continued, “AGA, if you are not careful, we will take you out of this country.”

The inflammatory remarks didn’t end there. Captain Smart also criticized AGA’s operations, questioning their responsibility in Obuasi and accusing the company of contributing to the hardships of the local people.

“Can you create a cyanide hole in South Africa? If not for bad leadership, how can these people do this in this country?” he added, directing his frustration towards the government and the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources.
