Nigerian-American rapper OG Maco, whose real name was Benedict Ihesiba Jr., has died at the age of 32, just weeks after being hospitalized.
His family confirmed the heartbreaking news on December 27 via an Instagram post, remembering his life as “a testament to resilience, creativity, and boundless love.”
They wrote, “While we mourn this tremendous loss, we also celebrate the extraordinary life he led.”
Earlier in December, they had shared an update revealing Maco was in “critical but stable condition” at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles.
His manager, Poppa Perc, had also spoken out, revealing Maco was on life support and undergoing numerous tests, asking fans to keep him in their prayers.
Maco’s career skyrocketed in 2014 with his breakout track “U Guessed It.” He later signed with Quality Control, collaborating with major artists like Diplo and Migos, and was honoured with a spot in XXL’s 2015 Freshman Class.
Throughout his life, Maco faced personal challenges, including a near-fatal car accident in 2016 and a severe skin condition in 2019.
Despite these obstacles, his family promises that his impact will forever remain “etched in our hearts.”
