Veteran Reggae/Dancehall artiste Iwan, also known as Iwan Suhyini has weighed in on Kofi Kinaata’s win for Reggae Song of the Year at the Telecel Ghana Music Awards, and he’s here to set the record straight.
Rather than joining the chorus of discontent, Iwan openly supports Kinaata’s achievement, asserting that his track, Effiakuma Love, is more than deserving of the honour.
In an interview on Cape Coast’s Property FM, Iwan addressed the mixed reactions that followed the award announcement.
While some fans were vocal about their disappointment, he sees this as an opportunity to embrace the evolving landscape of music.

“It’s not a problem when artists from other genres are recognized in the reggae and dancehall categories,” he shared, highlighting a more inclusive approach to music appreciation.
Iwan further noted that not every reggae enthusiast feels aggrieved by Kinaata’s success. “Many of us enjoy music across different genres,” he explained, suggesting that genuine talent should be recognized regardless of its roots.
He firmly believes that if a song meets the criteria for its category, it deserves accolades. “If Effiakuma Love qualifies for the award, then it should win,” he added with conviction.
His remarks promote a more collaborative spirit in the music industry, advocating for an environment where artists can uplift one another.
