Ghanaian media personality Okatakyie Afrifa-Mensah has sharply criticized Rev. Dr Ebenezer Adarkwa Yiadom, also known as Opambour, the founder and leader of Miracle Worship Centre in Kumasi, for his recent behaviour and threatening remarks towards media figure Afia Pokuaa, popularly known as Vim Lady.
Afrifa-Mensah, who is known for his outspoken views on societal issues, expressed his disappointment over the actions of the controversial prophet, highlighting the negative impact of such behaviour on Christianity and public perception.
“Prophets in Kumasi lately prophecy based on where they are coming from,” Afrifa-Mensah began, referring to a growing trend among some spiritual leaders who tailor their prophecies based on their local environments or personal disputes.
“Look at Ebenezer Adarkwa Yiadom. He’s been threatening people with curses over every small issue. Is that how Jesus told us to worship? He is making Christianity unlovely,” Afrifa-Mensah continued, criticizing Opambour’s approach to spiritual leadership.
The media personality, who has a large following, further questioned the validity and morality of such practices, urging the public to reflect on the true teachings of Christ.
“He’s supposed to lead people with love, understanding, and forgiveness. Cursing people, especially public figures like Afia Pokuaa, for speaking their minds, is far from Christ-like behavior,” Afrifa-Mensah said.
The specific incident that sparked Afrifa-Mensah’s ire was Opambour’s alleged threat to curse Afia Pokuaa, a well-known broadcaster and commentator, if she spoke negatively about him. According to reports, the prophet warned that anyone who criticized him would incur his wrath.
Afrifa-Mensah did not mince words when addressing this matter. “I was told he recently threatened to curse Afia Pokuaa if she negatively speaks against him. He is not Christ-like. Someone who truly understands Christianity and the teachings of Christ won’t be doing things like this,” he stated firmly.
“We need to reclaim the true essence of Christianity,” Afrifa-Mensah urged. “A Christian leader should be a beacon of hope and compassion, not someone who uses fear to control others.”
