Ghanaian actress and creative arts advocate Akofa Edjeani has made a passionate appeal to President John Dramani Mahama to give greater attention to the creative arts sector, emphasizing its central role in national development.
Speaking in an interview on Joy FM, Edjeani underscored the sector’s significance, calling it “the soul of any nation” and a foundation for preserving culture and identity.
“Film and theatre are essential to the growth of any nation, so we must prioritize the creative sector,” she stated. “Without culture, you are nothing.

That is the soul of any nation. But too often, we are detached from it. We place arts and culture aside while focusing on other things, and that’s not how it should work.”
Her remarks reflect the frustrations of many Ghanaian creatives who feel sidelined despite the country’s rich artistic heritage.
From iconic plays and films that have brought Ghana’s culture to the world stage to local festivals and artistic expressions that bind communities, the creative arts sector remains an untapped goldmine for both cultural preservation and economic growth.
