Prince Harry has officially declared America as his new home and renounced his British residency in recent paperwork.
In his first public appearance since his sister-in-law Kate Middleton’s cancer diagnosis, the 39-year-old prince spoke via video link at the annual general meeting of Travalyst, a sustainable travel organization that he established in 2019.
Travalyst, a nonprofit organization based in London, recently updated their records with Harry’s “new details” as part of their year-end procedures.
The fact that Harry originally listed the UK as his place of residence when he founded the organization indicates that he has no immediate plans to permanently reside in his native country.
In 2020, Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, decided to relocate to America, where they now reside in Montecito, California, along with their children, Prince Archie (4) and Princess Lilibet (2).
This move, famously known as “Megxit,” resulted in the couple being evicted from their UK home, Frogmore Cottage, which was a gift from the late queen after their wedding in 2018. They officially vacated the property in 2023, leaving them without an official residence in the UK.
Now, when they visit the UK, they have no place to stay and must stay with friends or in a hotel.
“Home for me, now, for the time being, is in the States. And it really feels that way, as well. We’ve been welcomed with open arms and have got such a great community up in Santa Barbara,” Harry said in a 2022 interview with “Today.”
With this new paperwork, he’s made it official, and not only a “for now” situation.
