As the fight against corruption continues in Ghana, IMANI Africa’s Vice President, Kofi Bentil, has called for a shift in strategy, emphasizing the need for prevention rather than recovery.
In a Facebook post, Bentil suggested that instead of focusing on retrieving stolen funds, the country should prioritize stopping corruption before it happens.
“Ghana needs ORAL. Just change the R to P, i.e., Prevent!! I pray they succeed and indeed pray they are retained in some form. That said, please dissolve the other useless anti-corruption bodies!! And let charity begin at home,” he wrote.
Bentil’s comments come in the wake of the final report submission by the Five-Member Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) Team. Led by Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the team presented their findings to President John Dramani Mahama on Monday, February 10, 2025. The report includes 2,417 complaints from individuals and civil society organizations detailing alleged corruption cases.

Upon receiving the report, President Mahama swiftly handed it over to the Attorney General, directing an immediate investigation into the complaints and evidence compiled by the ORAL Team.
The government’s response signals a commitment to addressing corruption, but Bentil’s remarks highlight a broader concern—how to prevent the mismanagement of public funds before it escalates into large-scale losses.
