Dr Nsiah Asare, a Presidential Advisor on Health has assured the people of La and Ga Adangbe in general that the construction of the demolished La General Hospital will begin soon.

After the hospital’s administration discovered serious structural issues in 2015, the La General Hospital was destroyed in 2019. On August 10, 2020, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo turned the first sod for the La General Hospital Redevelopment Project, however, construction has not yet started.

Following demonstrations by inhabitants of the La neighbourhood and nearby areas over the halted project, the disclosure was made on Citi FM.

In response to the residents’ worries, Dr Asare urged them to be patient while the government made improvements to the hospital and assured them that they would soon observe progress. Dr Asare gave an explanation for the delay, stating that although facilities were supposed to be ready to start the project, they never appeared.

The Ministry of Health and the Office of the Chief of Staff have been tasked by the President to speed up the procedure and make sure that advancement happens as soon as possible.

Dr Asare went on to explain that the health facility was demolished due to its structural weaknesses, which posed a threat to patients and residents at the time. “It was a dangerous building with a lot of cracks at the time, and it was risky to put patients who cannot run in case of a disaster at risk, so we decided to demolish it and hoped that it would have been built.”

Regarding the timeline for the project, Dr Asare stated that details on when construction will commence and what will be done at the site will be announced soon.

“It was a dangerous building with a lot of cracks at the time, and it was risky to put patients who cannot run in case of a disaster at risk, so we decided to demolish it and hoped that it would have been built,” he said.

“The details of when the project will start and what we are going to do there will be announced soon, but currently a lot of engagement is ongoing, and a roadmap will be announced soon.”
