President John Dramani Mahama has exercised his powers to revoke appointments made by the former Akufo-Addo government, a move that is sure to stir debate across political circles.
This directive, which affects key positions in local governance, was made official today and serves as a clear sign of Mahama’s intent to reassert control in the local government sector.
The revocation, as stated in the official announcement, affects the Chief Executives of Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs), as well as Assembly Members appointed under the relevant sections of the Local Governance Act, 2016 (Act 936), and its amendment by the Local Governance (Amendment) Act, 2017 (Act 940).

“In accordance with the powers vested in H.E. John Mahama under the provisions of the Local Governance Act, 2016 (Act 936), as amended by the Local Governance (Amendment) Act, 2017 (Act 940), the following appointments have been revoked effective today,” the statement read.
“The Chief Executives of Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies, along with Assembly Members appointed pursuant to the relevant sections of the Act.”
