Politicians Are Corrupt- Sam George Reveals How Bribery Helped Him to Be Elected

Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram and Minority spokesperson on Parliament’s Communications Committee, Samuel Nartey George, has stated that he is not a “saint” when it comes to matters relating to corruption.

In an interview for a personality profile on Joy TV, the outspoken lawmaker was clear: he bought his way into office. According to him, the battle against corruption in Ghana is pointless because most people are very corrupt.

“You know we are living in a political bubble, where we blame politicians for being corrupt, the politicians are corrupt because of the people that we lead because the average Ghanaian is extremely corrupt and has absolutely lost their moral fiber. Politicians are a reflection of the people,” he said.

“For a example, you are a party executive who sworn an oat to do party work, and part of the party work is to elect a leader for your party in your constituency, but you are deciding to give bail to a person who is competent to pay before you will elect him, he would have to find the money”.

“So he will go to business interest and go take the money from a businessman and come pay to get elected, but when he gets elected and he’s put in an executive position as a minister or a deputy minister, so that person gave you the money for a reason. He’s going to come back and take it in an inflated contract and you will turn around to say that minister is corrupt” he added.

When asked if he had ever paid a bribe to get elected, he admitted that he had, saying that despite paying less than his opponent, he had still won.

“I paid to get elected, how did you think I got elected, you think I will sit here and say I didn’t pay, I paid. They paid more than I did but I also paid, I paid less than them but I still won. I won’t lie about it because it’s the reality”. he said.
