Pastors Turned Political Campaigners Are Dividing Churches

In recent discussions surrounding the role of pastors in politics, Kwaku Manu raised a critical concern during his appearance on UTV’s United Showbiz, hosted by Empress Gifty.

He pointed out a noticeable shift in the behaviour of some religious leaders, stating, “These days, some pastors have turned into political campaigners.”

Kwaku Manu reminisced about a time when pastors would deliver messages or revelations without aligning themselves with any political party.

“In the past, if a pastor received a message or revelation about someone, they would simply share it, leaving the individual to decide whether to believe it or not,” he explained.

However, the current climate seems to indicate a departure from this tradition, as some pastors openly endorse political parties, which Kwaku Manu argues is fostering division within congregations.

This blending of politics and religion raises several concerns. Many followers seek spiritual nourishment and guidance from their pastors, expecting them to provide a sanctuary away from the often tumultuous world of politics.

When pastors take sides, it can lead to schisms within their communities, with congregants feeling alienated if their beliefs do not align with their pastor’s political views.

The potential for discord becomes especially problematic during election periods when emotions run high, and differing opinions can quickly escalate into conflicts.

In light of these developments, Kwaku Manu also took the opportunity to address the youth, urging them to avoid engaging in destructive behaviours during the elections.

“My advice to the youth is to steer clear of any destructive behaviour during the elections because it could lead to loss of life,” he cautioned.
