We Are Mocking God – Arnold Asamoah Baidoo on Conflicting Messages from Pastors

TV and radio pundit Arnold Asamoah Baidoo has raised a thought-provoking point during a recent episode of United Showbiz on UTV, shedding light on a significant issue within the Ghanaian religious landscape.

He expressed concern about the conflicting messages being delivered by various religious leaders, stating, “We are mocking God if one representative of God is saying A, the other B. It breeds mistrust.”

Baidoo highlighted the essential role that trust plays in the relationship between religious leaders and their congregations. “Some of the purposes for going to church is trust because we believe that something will happen there,” he explained.

When church members receive conflicting prophecies or teachings from different pastors, it can create a sense of uncertainty and erode their confidence in the church itself.

“If I have two representatives of God giving me two different accounts of a particular thing, in my mind, I’ll feel I’m at the wrong place,” he added. This lack of consistency and clarity has been linked to a decline in church membership, as many people are beginning to question the credibility of their pastors and the messages they preach.

Baidoo’s concerns are not unfounded. The prevalence of controversial prophecies has sparked unrest and even violence in some instances. He referenced a past incident involving Rev. Owusu Bempah, who made a prophecy in December 2019 regarding the death of the Chief Imam.

This prediction led to backlash from Muslim youths, who retaliated by ambushing Bempah’s church, resulting in property damage and assaults. “These prophecies can lead to unrest sometimes,” Baidoo stated, underscoring the potential consequences of irresponsible declarations by religious leaders.

As more individuals demand transparency and integrity from their spiritual leaders, the need for accountability becomes crucial.

“We have to call out prophets who make a declaration and it doesn’t come to pass,” Baidoo asserted, advocating for a more responsible approach to prophecy and spiritual leadership.
