The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration has declared that the maximum fee for a Ghanaian passport, specifically for a premium service is GH¢300.
The minister responsible for the sector recently paid an impromptu visit to the passport office located in Accra. During this tour, she primarily announced the cancellation of contracts for all contract personnel. The minister explained that this decision was made with the intention of purifying the passport application process.
The minister expressed frustration over the fact that people needed to pay more than 2,000 or even 3,000 cedis for a passport. The Ministry has now released the expected fees for obtaining the travel document.
On August 17, 2023, the organization issued a press release that included an email and hotlines where customers could complain about poor service at any of the organization’s Passport Application Centres (PACs).
The Ministry further requested that the public be reminded that applications for passports must be submitted through the Passport Application Portal (passport.mfa.gov.gh) and that the required processing costs must be paid through the ghana.gov.gh website.
The payment is made via digital means rather than through the use of physical cash.
The cost of a 32-page booklet is GH¢100.00.
The cost of the 48-page booklet is GH¢150.00.
The statement went on to address the issue of prompter service, saying, “The public is advised to note that applications submitted to the regular PACs do not come at an extra cost.”
“However, applicants have the option of submitting their applications to the Premium PACs, which attract an additional GH¢150.000 payable in cash at the Premium Centers for the use of their service.”
Those who apply for a 32-page booklet through the Premium Centres will pay a total of 250 cedis, while those who apply for a 48-page booklet will pay a total of 300 cedis: 150 cedis for the application (electronic payment) and an additional 150 cedis in currency at the Premium Centre.
