President John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed his commitment to transforming Ghana’s fortunes, emphasizing that his administration’s mandate is a direct response to the hardships Ghanaians have endured in recent years.
Speaking during his first State of the Nation Address (SONA) since assuming office, Mahama reflected on the overwhelming support he received in the 2024 elections, which saw him secure victory with an unprecedented margin.
“The good people of Ghana elected me to office, with a historic electoral margin of nearly 1.7 million votes separating me from my next opponent,” he stated, adding that the win was a “selfless call to duty” from citizens desperate for change.

Mahama, who returned to power after defeating the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the December 2024 elections, acknowledged the burden of expectation on his administration and urged all political actors to work together in addressing Ghana’s challenges.
“That call, therefore, places an obligation on me and all who serve with me, including legislators from both sides of the house, to do our utmost with decency and humility to change the circumstances and state of our country,” he stressed.
